This cross-disciplinary lecture series brings leading experts in histories, cultures, and environments before 1800 to Stony Brook to share new research illuminating aspects of the past that have been obscured or marginalized. Histories to Recover invites us to reflect on how this new knowledge changes what we think we know, and how we know what we think. We take this understanding of the past and of ourselves to be at once instructive, restorative, and future-oriented. Speakers are proposed by members of the Early Worlds collective of Stony Brook faculty and graduate students working on pre-1800 topics.
