Recreation and Wellness Broad Based Fee

The Recreation and Student Life Broad Base Fee is essential in enriching campus life and supporting a range of student-centered programs and services. This fee funds enhanced campus traditions and initiatives, including Homecoming, Red Day, Involvement Fairs, and cultural-themed monthly programs, all of which contribute to a vibrant campus community and student success. It also supports a diverse array of recreational and wellness activities, such as outdoor adventures, sports clubs, and intramural sports—featuring 44 weekly fitness classes and over 20 intramural sports and special events this year. The fee covers the replacement of equipment, maintenance, and custodial services for facilities like the Walter J. Hawrys Recreation, the university pool, and South P Field complex, ensuring these spaces remain high-quality and accessible. Additionally, it provides employment opportunities for over 300 students annually and subsidizes off-campus trips to popular destinations such as Six Flags Fright Fest, Broadway Shows, and Tanger shopping. By supporting these operations and offerings, the fee plays a crucial role in enhancing student quality of life, fostering a sense of belonging, and promoting overall wellness on campus.
