Emergency Alerts from the Stony Brook University

Emergency Operations Center

Monday, August 19, 2024 - 1:00 p.m.

Dear campus community,

We are still assessing the damage to campus caused by the overnight storms and flooding.

Please note, move-in plans for today, Monday, August 19, 2024 and tomorrow, Tuesday, August 20, 2024 have been canceled.

Campus Residences will be communicating to students directly regarding move-in activity, along with event updates for the week. It’s imperative that students check their Stony Brook email addresses for updates specific to their situations. Please refrain from calling offices.

Most buildings are operational and any closures or schedule changes will be communicated to affected staff directly. The Stony Brook University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home remain open and continue to operate under regular schedules.

Please also note:

  • There has been no change to the scheduled start date for the Fall semester's first day of classes: Monday, August 26, 2024.

As pertinent information develops, we will keep the campus community apprised, and ask for your continued  patience as we prioritize the safety of our students, faculty, staff, patients and visitors.

Sincerely,

Lawrence Zacarese

Vice President for Enterprise Risk Management and Chief Security Officer
