Mission Statement

The CEAS Peer Mentoring Program assists first year and transfer students in their transition to Stony Brook University. Peer mentors encourage academic, social, and community involvement and facilitate student access to campus resources and activities. The CEAS Peer Mentoring Program fosters a sense of community and positive connections among the students, staff, and faculty of CEAS and the greater Stony Brook University Campus.

Through participating in this program, mentees will:

  • Become more connected to the CEAS and Stony Brook University
  • Gain skills to become independent and experience positive self-discovery
  • Enhance their academic success and persistence in their CEAS major
  • Be provided with a consistent and reliable source of support

As the backbone of this program, our peer mentors have numerous opportunities to learn and grow with this unique leadership position.

Through their role, mentors will:

  • Develop strong leadership, communication, time management, and other soft skills to further their professional growth.
  • Develop close connections with CEAS faculty and staff that will help prepare them for life after college.
  • Connect with fellow mentors to form a strong community of student leaders.
