NEW YORK, N.Y., September 13, 2010 — With the Gulf oil spill continuing to create headlines and command answers, while bringing smart energy use to the forefront among elected officials, urban planners, business leaders, and others, the foremost energy experts from the public, private and non-profit sectors will convene to explore new ideas and solutions at the 2010 Advanced Energy Conference in New York City on November 8 and 9. Featured speakers at the conference will discuss the continuing evolution of the new energy landscape, bringing their unique insights to a broad range of energy issues that impact the economy, job market, environment, and homeland security.
The conference, now in its fourth year, is produced by the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) at Stony Brook University, and will feature keynote presentations from top leaders in advanced energy, including: Starnes Walker, Director of Research of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; George Arnold, National Coordinator for Smart Grid Interoperability, Robert Gilligan, VP of Energy Services, Digital Energy Business and an Officer of General Electric Corporation; Richard Kessel, President and CEO of New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Frank Murray, President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
“From the environmental implications of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, to the ongoing debate about how to best move towards a clean energy economy, to the impact that energy dependence has on foreign policy, it is clear that energy has become the central issue of our time,” said Robert Catell, Chairman of the AERTC Board of Advisors and former Chairman of National Grid, USA. “It demands continued discussion and varied perspectives, which is what we strive to achieve with the Advanced Energy Conference.” A wide variety of corporations and organizations will be represented at the conference, including GE, NYPA, NYSERDA, IBM, National Grid, Verizon, the U.S. Department of Energy, Brookhaven National Lab, Con Edison, and LIPA among others. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of programs covering topics such as energy policy, development of alternative energy industries, sustainable building, energy efficiency, and intelligent transportation.
